Easter is a great time to celebrate with friends and family and eat lots of sweets and candies! But it’s important to remember that all of that candy will take a toll on your teeth. There are a few things you can do to help your teeth stay healthier throughout Easter.

- Brush twice a day and floss once a day. It’s not just important to care for your smile during the day but at night as well. Doing so helps remove the buildup of plaque and food particles that build up between teeth, which can increase your risk of tooth decay.
- Drink water. Water not only hydrates your body but can help wash away food particles and acid from your mouth. Try to have a glass of water with every meal or snack to rinse away harmful elements.
- Don’t chew on hard candy or foods that can crack or chip your teeth. Hard candies can weaken your enamel, exposing the inner layer of your teeth as well as irritating your gums. Foods high in sugar can also feed the bacteria in your mouth that cause cavities and encourage the growth of gum disease. Instead of snacking on foods that are hard on your teeth, opt for cheese cubes and nuts. These foods can help keep you full without harming your teeth.
- Avoid sticky candies like caramels and gummy bears. Not only can these stick to your teeth, increasing the risk of tooth decay, but they can also pull at the tooth itself, causing damage over time. Avoiding these foods altogether will help keep your smile looking fabulous this spring season.
- Rinse out your mouth after eating. The sugar and starch in sweets can stick to the enamel of your teeth and increase the risk of decay. It’s important to rinse out your mouth after eating sugary treats to reduce the amount of sugar coating your teeth and help reduce the risk of cavities. - When there are sweet treats and candy around the house, it can be tempting to indulge a little bit too much. Consider limiting yourself to the treats you really love.
